Behind the Collection: Wax London AW21

Wax London’s latest collection focuses on community and togetherness – so it’s no wonder the easy-to-wear pieces carry universal appeal.

Seeking inspiration for their AW21 designs, the Wax London team travelled to Charleston House, once home to artists Duncan Grant, Vanessa Bell and Roger Fry. After over a year of isolation, it felt important to experience a space where people once came together to create and share ideas.

The artists’ shared interest in eclectic interiors and combining country and city aesthetics left a mark on Wax, who then applied this mis-matched ‘collage’ approach to the new collection. As a result, you can expect a subtle mix of textures and nostalgic prints, from the vintage-inspired Oz Shirt to new iterations of the brand’s signature Whiting Overshirt.

Even with this more artistic approach, the latest batch of Wax designs are as wearable as ever. Think easy layering pieces and elevated basic, all kept casual with a soft, earthy colour palette. The label predominantly uses organic cotton and recycled viscose, and extends their belief in togetherness to the people who make their clothes. Most of the collection is created in Wax's hometown, London, and all the makers are fairly treated and compensated.

The idea of community and human connection is consistent with the brand’s values since day one. Take the ever-popular Whiting Shirt, fondly named after co-founder Tom’s grandad and now a cornerstone of every collection.
