Never been a better time for Good News

The brand new collection from Good News just landed. We give a deserved shout out to these sustainable sneakers and run down 5 reasons why they are our go to footwear brand. Check out the rest of our pick of these do good shoes below, and feel better about the positive impact you are having by supporting sustainable brands.

1. Giving back is at their core

They do what they say on the tin. Since founding the brand, the team have stayed true to their name and their word by bringing the world a bit more good news that it forever needs (and deserves!). By raising awareness to causes that otherwise go under the radar they aim to halt the damage that modern footwear manufacturing causes to people and the planet. Their Good Luck Shoes project was created to help provide shoes that function well to migrants arriving in Italy in need of care. And they've done just that, already sorting over 3000 pairs of shoes to those who are in great need of them. The brand gets to know them personally, making this more than a one stop handout - investing in them and their story as they start a new chapter.

2. Simple, sustainable materials

Did you know that 95 per cent of the 20 billion pairs of shoes produced globally each year end up in landfill sites? Overwhelming. The sneaker industry specifically is a notoriously wasteful one and Good News are challenging the norm by making product out of far more sustainable materials. Their uppers use organic cotton (read: no toxins, pesticides or chemical nasties) which are incidentally super breathable. Each footbed is an environmentally friendly formulation; Airfoam ECO 20. It contains bio- oil and recycled rubber. And the rubber outsole is made through a vulcanising process so flexible and durable. Think recycled rubber pellets ground down from car tyres and old rubber shoes. Non-toxic and made to endure. Tick, tick, tick.

3. Design led to get you talking

Never ones to compromise on style, we fell for Good News based on their sustainable creds but also because they look damn nice. The raised beds on each sole means added height (which we'll always take) with a sleek design made to look good for a long time. They don't crease or sag, and the colour palettes they choose are always spot on to what we actually want. They arguably suit all styles, shapes, ages and vibes. There's something for everyone.

4. Wear, wash, wear, repeat!

We know that longevity is at the real heart of the sustainability issue in fashion. Fast fashion by its very name encourages us all to cycle quickly through our clothes, disposing of them when we want something new. Good News are all about the long game instead, designing trainers that last with high soles to minimise damage, uppers cut from hardwearing woven cotton and a washable design. Yeah, you can wash them in the machine. They also try to close the loop as much as possible donating residual stock and samples to the United Shoe Recycling Company, dedicated to encouraging people to dispose of their shoes and clothing responsibly by recycling through Banks & Containers placed at many locations across the UK.

5. They are inspiring the industry.

Good inspired good and trend led footwear that looks great yet does better at protecting out planet is everything the industry needs. And we know from wearing them, sharing them with you and hearing your feedback that you've been spreading the word. Expect major compliments. And they are now making serious waves, winning this year's Footwear Brand of the Year at Draper's Sustainability Awards.

You can tell we love them, but we want you to try them for yourselves. Check out the new collection here, and let us know if you need fit, sizing or styling guidance.
