APPLESKIN™: MATT & NAT's leather alternative is made from apple waste

Since their inception in 1995, MATT & NAT have never use any animal-based materials. Each season, they continue to utilise innovative methods and materials to produce high quality, timeless pieces. Their latest leather alternative is made from apple waste.

APPLESKIN™ is one of a growing cohort of biomaterials that are being created in order to mitigate the environmental impact of animal leather and its plastic alternatives.

When apples are pressed for their juice, the leftover solids are called apple pomace. It's too good to be thrown away as organic waste. Due to its high cellulose content, it's ideal for upcycling into new fabrics.

The apple waste’s high content of polymers and short fibres provides strength and suppleness.
