Art you can wear
treen × Soo Burnell
A collaboration between fine art photographer Soo Burnell, Madrid-based brand Edmmond Studios and the ethical fashion retailer treen.
Fine art photographer Soo Burnell has launched her first wearable collection in collaboration with the Edinburgh-based fashion retailer treen and the Spanish brand Edmmond Studios. The collection features three pieces from Soo’s latest photographic collection, I am home, which she describes as a love letter to Edinburgh, the city she grew up in and the place she still calls home.
Soo and treen’s founder Cat Anderson selected three photographs: Gardening At The Grange, Time For A Rematch 1, and Doubles 1 – all from locations within walking distance of treen’s flagship store in the city’s Stockbridge area.
The images are printed on two wardrobe staples from Edmmond Studios: a 100% organic cotton T-shirt in white and a 100% organic cotton sweatshirt in light grey melange. Founded in Madrid, the brand is known for creating contemporary and timeless designs with a focus on sustainability, both in the choice of fabrics and in their commitment to ‘proximity production’ with factories based in Portugal and Spain.
For Soo, the opportunity to collaborate with treen, a vegan retailer that places sustainability and ethical choices at the core of their business, was all the encouragement she needed to embark on her first venture into fashion.
As Soo observes, the retro aesthetic of these photographs complements the subtle vintage styling of this collection. “These are pieces that I’d wear every day and any day,” she says, “whether I’m editing in my studio or working on location. I’m always drawn to comfortable, easy styles, but I also love finding a classic design with a bit of an edge. That’s what this collaboration is about: pieces that have this timeless simplicity, but with that twist in creating a piece of wearable art."
