The treen guide to Copenhagen

Home to thoughtful design, cosy cafés and one-of-a-kind gems, Copenhagen is a city that slows you down while endlessly inspiring. Here’s our edit of what to see, eat and pack for springtime in one of our favourite places.

To eat + drink

Riviera

Sample seasonal Scandinavian buns, perfectly flaky pastries and strong coffee at this sunny corner café in the historic Nansensgade neighbourhood. A local landmark since the 1960s, Riviera’s popularity and frequent queues are well earned.

Beyla

We’ll always remember Beyla as one of the most beautiful dining rooms we've experienced. Expect inventive vegan plates, a calm ambience and impeccable design at this in-demand eatery. Book ahead to secure your spot.

Sonny

Nestled in the city centre, Sonny offers tasty egg dishes, organic ingredients and a calm, high-ceilinged setting. We were spoiled with standout meals during our time in Copenhagen, but this is our go-to spot for a relaxed brunch.

To shop

Skall Studio Flagship

In true Skall fashion, the new flagship store evokes quiet elegance and a refined sense of style. Stop by to browse the latest collections or simply soak in the aesthetic – it’s worth a visit for the interiors inspiration alone.

Lié Studio

Founded by Amalie and Cecilie Moosgaard, Lié Studio creates elegant vintage-inspired accessories. The Copenhagen store feels like stepping into a jewellery box, with striking, sculptural designs peeking out of veneer drawers and glass cases.

Frama Studio Store

Set in a former pharmacy, Frama is part gallery, part concept space. Peruse the selection of directional furniture, minimalist home accessories and natural fragrances – the perfect souvenir for yourself or a loved one.

To do

Botanical Garden & Butterfly House

If the city starts to overwhelm, escape to the Botanical Garden and enjoy the calming presence of tropical palms, vibrant orchids and exotic butterflies. The Victorian greenhouse was a particular highlight for us.

Vognmagergade Street (1120 København)

City breaks are for ambling around unfamiliar streets with no real plan, and this charming stretch of quaint storefronts and intimate galleries is ideal for just that. Take your time window shopping and pausing for Danish pastries.

Louisiana Museum

You’ll need a day to visit this art museum just outside the capital, but you’ll be rewarded with a warren of light-filled galleries, sculpture-dotted gardens and sweeping views over the Øresund. Look out for works by Pablo Picasso, David Hockney and Yayoi Kusama.

To pack

Light trench – The weather can shift, making layers a must.
Wide-leg denim – The Danish dress code is cool and casual, so dress accordingly.
Breton stripes A spring staple, whatever the setting.
Simple knit – Choose one that works with all your outfits.
Trainers or loafers – Comfort first for this ultra-walkable city.
Crossbody bag – The perfect home for your on-the-go essentials.
Printed scarf – A fun accessory is always welcome in Copenhagen.
